Where the rest of the world looked at the gifts of the Strangers and saw a new dawn, the Grand Principality of Varysk saw a tether. Named for the ancient dynasty that has ruled its rugged northern territories for centuries, Varysk stands as a defiant outlier in the modern age. It is a nation built on the shivering iron of its industry and the absolute discipline of its people, standing in stark contrast to the Singularium-integrated societies of the south.
The Principality is defined by its strict Null-Protocol: the total prohibition of Singularium technology within its borders. To the Varyskians, Singularium is a "crutch of the weak" and a foreign poison that erodes human self-reliance. While their neighbors rely on energy-matter reactors and neural links, Varysk relies on advanced internal combustion, heavy ballistics, and the raw physical endurance of its soldiers. This technological isolationism has made them a "black hole" on global energy maps, but also immune to the cascading failures that plague Singularium grids.
The political heart of the nation beats within the Iron Citadel in the capital city of Varysk. Following the tragic events of the Age of Division, which saw the near-total extermination of the ruling family, the crown now rests upon the head of Grand Princess Milena Varyskova. Having recently reached the age of adulthood, the young Princess faces the monumental task of unifying a nation that feels increasingly besieged. She is protected by the Boyar Guard, an elite unit of warriors who have mastered traditional combat and heavy-armor tactics to a degree that rivals the effectiveness of meta-human operatives.
Life in Varysk is deeply militaristic. Every citizen is considered a reservist, and the economy is entirely directed toward the maintenance of the "Wall of Iron"—the fortified border that separates them from the influence of the FST. They view the Church of Singularity as a subversive intelligence agency and its "Applied Theology" as a form of cultural warfare. Church missionaries caught within Varyskian territory are often treated as spies and subjected to immediate expulsion or worse.
Despite their rejection of Singularium, Varysk remains a global power through its control of traditional raw materials and its sheer military resilience. They have adapted by perfecting mechanical engineering and chemical propellants to a level the rest of the world has forgotten. They do not seek to conquer the world; they seek to outlast it, waiting for the day they believe the Singularium "bubble" will inevitably burst, leaving only those with iron in their blood left standing.
